Meebo.com was founded. Its goal is to offer end users a way to connect to multiple Instant Messenger (IM) networks such as Yahoo! messenger,
MSN Messenger (Or Live Messenger), AIM and ICQ. Later they expanded to offer access to MyspaceIM, FacebookIM and generic Jabber access.
The makers of all of this based their creation upon opensource software from the popualr Gain project (Which was renamed to Pidgin in early 2007) so it is safe to assume that Meebo could roll out further
supported protocols in furture.
Meebo is accessed via a normal web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox, This has many pros and cons depending on the users point of view and needs. A main advantage is being able to access
all of your IM accounts on computers where you can not install the real application (perhaps due to administrative restrictions etc) and for most of these people Meebo is ideal!
Until it gets blocked! And then such sites like
Meebo Proxy come to the rescue by proxing your Meebo requests through our own high tech network of servers and letting you carry
on talking to all of your IM contacts!
